The Necklace

The Necklace by Matt Witten

Four out of Five Magical Coffee Cups

I don’t have a physical Kindle, but I have the app on my phone.  I know I have the app; I have a ton of books on the app!  Here’s the problem: I keep forgetting about those books as I look at my overflowing bookshelves and towers of books around my home.  It is very much ‘out of sight, out of mind,’ and I don’t like that!  I need to keep better track of my e-books.  This book is an excellent example of why I should give more attention to my e-books.

I have had this book for so long.  I did like this book.  I just kept forgetting it because it was an e-book.  I would be in line at the grocery store, and I would pull out my phone to read a little as I waited, and I would get sucked back into the book until the cashier would call me back into the real world, and the book would go back to hiding in my phone.  And it really is a good book!

Susan is traveling across the country to see the execution of the man who killed her daughter 20 years earlier.  The trip takes a few detours, and there are problems with her car, money, etc.  As she travels, she keeps reflecting on her life from two decades ago.  We learn more and more about what happened with her daughter’s death, but there might be more to the story.   Is she an over-stressed grieving mother?  Is the execution too much and causing her to lose it? What truly happened all those years ago?

It reminded me a little of a documentary. You review all that happened years ago to see if the evidence still fits, and you are also given some new evidence.  Was the right person caught?

You want someone to pay for the death of that little girl, but it needs to be the right person that pays. If there are any doubts, you will never feel justice was served. Just days before the execution, Susan is desperate to make things right.  She needs to know what happened so that an innocent man isn’t executed. But if it wasn’t this man, who was it?

Now, I need to look through all the e-books I have hidden away on my Kindle App to find more hidden gems!
