How do you keep yourself from forgetting about your eBooks?!?! I’m not great at reading my physical books when they are sitting on the shelf in front of me! I finally bought a cart that sits in my bedroom (the TBR stack was too tall to sit on my nightstand. Well, if I am being honest, I have a TBR stack on my nightstand AND now also the cart with the B list of TBRs).
Anyway, how do I keep the eBooks (and audiobooks) on my radar? I am a little better with the audiobooks because I do listen often, so I am always thinking about what book to download to be ready for when I go for a walk, drive, or start cleaning up around my home. If I am going to sit down and read, I almost never remember to look at my eBooks. I started thinking about this when I got stuck in a really long line at the grocery store a few weeks ago. I knew I was going to be there for a while, and I didn’t have my headphones. What could I do?!?! I finally remembered my eBooks. I pulled out my phone and started reading. I found a book that I had for well over a year! It was a really great book, and I was a little annoyed at myself for having forgotten about this book for so long.
I also really want to remind myself about this books because there have been so many “stuff your Kindle” days and I have done my best to stuff my kindle. I spent a lot of time going through all of these books, I don’t want them to sit for years! What if one of those books turn out to be my next favorite read or favorite author! When I was in grad school I would always have multiple books going and I would keep them straight by reading them in different formats. So I would have a print book, audiobook, and an eBook going at the same time. It made it easier to keep the books separate in my mind. I have been busy with work lately and haven’t really had multiple books going at once.
Some ideas I have had but haven’t been able to keep up with or even bring myself to get started:
- Build a Goodreads shelf of eBooks I haven’t read’ – If I don’t look at my Kindle app, what makes me think I’m going to look at my Goodreads lists. This might not work for me.
- Create an online checklist of my entire TBR list and mark the digital books (eBook and audiobook).
- Write a physical list of the same. (Color code the lists? Or at least the books?) The list idea might be a good choice, but it is a lot of work to start. I have hundreds of eBooks at this point.
- Make a schedule of my reading habits- print book, audiobook, eBook, back to print book, and so on. I might not be able to rotate through the different formats perfectly but at least I’ll have a reminder about my eBooks.
Any other ideas? I need to get better at remembering my eBooks!
