Animorphs: The Graphic Novel
Four out of Five Magical Coffee Cups

I knew of these books when I was younger but I never read them. I was always creeped out by the covers. I didn’t like them! I had no idea what they were about, I couldn’t get past the covers! Now that I am a school librarian I have to read out of my comfort zone often so I can have ample titles to recommend. I avoided these for some time but last week someone gave me the graphic novel version. I figured it was time to give these books a chance.
So it’s not as creepy as I thought it would be. It is creepy and weird, no doubt, but not as much as I thought. I was under the impression that each kid had one animal they could morph into and that was it. I always felt bad for the one who became odd animals. I remember some covers of kids turning into a bee or a slug.

But it turns out they are able to turn into any animal they have touched. And they are able to morph into that animal anytime they want after that. So they can build up quite the list of animals.
Okay, five teens come across a spaceship and meet an alien who gives them the power to morph into animals. They are to use this power to fight back against Earth’s enemy, these gross brain-infesting slugs. Ew. The kids do a pretty good job of acclimating to this new way of life. They are able to morph quickly, even learning to morph without ruining or losing their clothes. They are also pretty good at finding animals to link with so they can morph. They make a great team.
I’m not as creeped out by these books now! I will be looking for more!
