The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel

The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel by Sheela Chari

Four out of Five Magical Coffee Cups

This is another one that I read for school.  I didn’t look too much into it, but I did see that it was based off of a podcast of the same name.  I wasn’t sure if I should read the book first or listen to the podcast first.  I ended up reading the book without having listened to the podcast. I will try to update this post if I end up listening to it and let you know if you need to or should listen to the podcast first!

Mars and his friends all have some unique traits. Most of the time, they use their talents to get themselves into trouble. Nearly every after-school, they meet in detention. I don’t know why I found that funny, but it was almost like an after-school club—they all get detention all the time.

One of their friends goes missing, and Mars is determined to find her. Soon, they start to hear about kids from all over the world who have gone missing. They suspect it has something to do with a tech billionaire (is he based on Elon Musk?) who has a school for the smartest of the smartest. Mars loves Oliver Pruitt, but could he really be behind all the missing kids? I have to say, Mars and his friends are amazing! They genuinely do push to get all of their questions answered. They already get detention every day; what else could happen to them?

Things start to get really strange.  I thought this would be a mystery, but science fiction was thrown in there. (I should start researching a little about these books before I start reading!) I had very little idea what was going to happen in this book.  Where are all these missing kids? What is up with this Oliver Pruitt guy? Is he good? Evil? What is happening? There were a lot of questions to be answered and very few answers were given until the very end. And even then, it ended on a cliffhanger. Still, I’m excited to read the next in the series! I want to know what is going on with all of this!
