The Interplanetary Expedition of Mars Patel

The Interplanetary Expedition of Mars Patel (Mars Patel #2) by Sheela Chari

Four out of Five Magical Coffee Cups

The second installment of the Mars Patel series! Don’t read on if you haven’t read the first book!

Mars is headed to Mars! I was a little worried initially, seeing as it starts soon after the first book ends. Mars is in a spaceship that has just taken off, and it is starting a six-month trip to Mars. I was worried that the whole book was going to be about the trip. There is a quick little montage, and the book quickly fast-forwards to arriving on Mars.

The colony is incredible. There are a ton of kids running it! I was impressed with their abilities to do so much. These kids are smart! I don’t think I realized just how young these kids are.  While reading, I thought they were teens, but they pointed out that some kids running the colony were under 10 years old!

Life is not all sunshine and rainbows on the red planet. Some people don’t like the new society. Some have splintered off to form a gang of sorts, stealing what they need from the colony, hiding in tunnels, and causing havoc as they see fit.

We also see that life back on Earth is not going well either. Rain storms have flooded most of the West Coast, causing vast amounts of damage. Is Mars’s mother safe? Are his friends Toothpick, Caddie, and JP safe?

Also, why did Oliver Pruitt want Mars so badly? What is his purpose?  There are so many secrets when it comes to Pruitt!

Is it better to be on Mars or Earth? By the end of this book, I’m not sure! Again, we are left hanging.  Well, I’m off to find the third book!
