Some out of 5 Magical Coffee Cups

I do love a spooky book! My students do as well! This author has a ton of creepy books, and I was lucky enough to find this one in the library. They are usually checked out!

Jasmine has just moved to Gold River and she finds herself drawn to the Carlisle, an abandoned hotel.  There are a lot of stories about death and hauntings with this hotel. It’s to the point that every year kids from the local middle school have a challenge to see who can stay there the longest. Jasmine and her new friends Mira and Rohan eventually agree to join in on the dare in hopes of gaining some popularity or at least avoiding the continuous bullying.

How hard can it be? They decided to have a seance to make this year’s dare extra special. Where’s the harm? Right?  As most of us can guess, everything starts to go wrong. The kids are stuck inside this creepy hotel with some even creepier former guests. How can they escape? All sorts of crazy things start to happen, and the kids begin to turn on each other. Who is to blame for all of this? Who came up with the seance idea? Who can you trust?

I will say the ending got me. I’m not sure if I would even say that it was a happy ending. Can someone else read this book and tell me what you thought of the ending? I really liked it but, wow, I was not expecting it.
