Four out of Five Magical Coffee Cups

Another book written in verse.
Again, as I said in the last post, these books have fewer words on a page but a lot more emotion.
Claire is on vacation with her parents. All she wants to do is sit outside and read. She can’t help noticing that her parents are really talking to each other and they aren’t spending too much time with each other either. Claire assumes this is how people act when they have been married for a long time and doesn’t put too much thought into it. Claire’s mother wants to have a mother/daughter day and she reluctantly agrees. They go shopping at all the places her mom loves and Claire is trying her best to seem happy to be there. After shopping they go out for lunch. Here Claire’s mom tells her something. She tells her a secret she has been holding onto. Claire is shocked at what her mom just said but before she can react, her mom has a brain aneurysm.
Claire’s life is now mostly a hospital room with her dad trying to keep it together as her mom recovers. I don’t know much about aneurysms but I know anything with the brain can be really bad. Claire’s mom keeps saying things that don’t make much sense. She says that her parents both visited her when Claire and her dad both knew they didn’t, she named the wrong president, she doesn’t know what year it is. It’s not looking good.
Claire is sent back home with her aunt so she can start school with her friends and try to have a bit of a normal life while her mom recovers. This is the last thing she wants, she wants to be with her mom!
Her mom does start to recover but it’s not all that simple, she still has a long way to go and Claire can’t forget what she said right before she had the aneurysm. Will her mother remember what she said? Will things go back to normal? Can Claire come to terms with this new version of her mother?
Oh, all of these books in verse I have been reading recently with their heavy emotions. I might have to go back to some spooky books soon. I can’t handle all of these sad stories.
