Field of Screams

Field of Screams by Wendy Parris

Three out of Five Magical Coffee Cups

Back to my spooky books! Rebecca loves ghosts and all things paranormal. She spends the summer with her aunt and uncle in a 100-year-old farmhouse.  There must be ghosts in a 100-year-old house in the middle of nowhere, right?

On the front of the book there was a quote from another author:

“Chilling, thrilling, and full of heart!” – Kiersten White

I found this to be a good explanation of the book. There are definitely chills and thrills as Rebecca starts to explore. She is given a box of her late father’s things from when he was her age. Rebecca is thrilled to hear that he was also into ghosts. Not only was he interested in ghosts, but he had also written about a ghost at that farm. Do the weird things Rebecca sees have something to do with the ghost her dad saw?

Rebecca is meeting new kids in the area, but not all seem to feel the same way she does about the ghosts.  Kelsie couldn’t care less about the ghost or Rebecca and Nick wants to prove that there is a scientific reason for everything.

There is also some family drama going on throughout the book. Rebecca’s mom is spending time with one of the neighbors. Is she starting to date? And if she is going to date, does she have to start with Kelsie’s dad?

I had a lot of fun with this book. It was interesting to put the pieces together alongside Rebecca. I don’t think I would have pieced this all together as well as she did. I saw that this author has another book out. I will have to grab that one soon.
