Four out of Five Magical Coffee Cups

Spooky book!

Lily and her family have moved from Colorado to Florida for her dad’s new job. There is hinting at the fact that Lily did something and that is why the family decided to move and give her a fresh start. Lily is not a fan of the move, and she is not a fan of the new house. I wouldn’t be either, as they bought a home ‘as is’. That is often not an excellent sign for a house. This particular house was a hoarder’s house, and they needed to clean it out themselves.  I couldn’t imagine moving into a home filled with trash and junk.  Lily is a little like me, and she wants to learn about who could have lived here before her. She is looking through the junk to see what she can learn. I do like the idea of a sort of archeological dig, but not if I have to live there as I dig.

Lily starts having bad dreams and even begins to sleepwalk. Her parents, especially her dad, say that she is being overdramatic.  Her dad doesn’t seem to like her at this point, and I can’t tell if he is stressed about the move and whatever happened back in Colorado, if there is something wrong with him, or if he is just a sucky human being for being so mean to his daughter. The mom is a little more understanding, but still quick to lose her patience with Lily.

Lily starts to learn more and more about what might have happened in her new home. Is there a little girl haunting the house? What does she want with Lily?

It’s mainly Lily who is trying to solve this mystery, but she does meet a new friend, Rachel, while exploring. Rachel is into ghosts and mysteries, so she sort of encourages Lily to keep digging, so to speak. At one point, a Ouija board was involved, and that was when I knew this book was going to be all sorts of creepy.
