Holly Horror

Holly Horror by Michelle Jabes Corpora

Evie has just moved with her mom and little brother to an old family-owned home that has sat vacant for years after the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl. Back in 1981, a girl named Holly Hobbie disappeared from her room and was never seen again. Evie assumed this was so long ago that no one would still be talking about it. No such luck. As she starts to speak with people in her new town, she finds out that most, if not all, of her new village remembers what happened in Hobbie House, or as they like to call it, “Horror House”.

Evie finds an old diary in the attic. In it, she reads about Holly’s last year before she disappeared. In the diary, she mentions a secret friend and someone named ‘J’.

As time goes by, things get creepy. Evie sees and hears things and almost seems possessed at times as she feels compelled to make this dress for homecoming. She also meets a boy named Desmond. He is the town’s all-star. He is also the ex-boyfriend of the meanest girl in town. There is a lot of drama happening in Evie’s life!

There were a lot of spooky things going on, and it was hard to figure out what was going on. Was it Holly? Was it whatever took Holly? Is it the house? Is there a spirit? Is it a family thing? All of these questions kept me reading.

I will say the ending was weird. It left a lot unsaid and unanswered. But then I realized there is a second book! I didn’t love this book but I think it is because I have so many questions! I hope to read the second soon and see how I feel about the series as a whole.
