The Sleepover by Michael Regina
Another spooky graphic novel!
Four boys are having a sleepover, and of course, they are watching scary movies. They start talking about the scary stuff in their own hometown, including the witch in the forest. She apparently will lure people into the woods, and if you go, you are marked. Then she begins to haunt you. One day, Matt hears someone calling his name from inside the woods. I don’t know much, but I do know that if you hear your name being called from a haunted forest, no, you didn’t. But Matt doesn’t have the life experience I do, I guess. He heads right into the woods.
The woods are creepy, and there are a ton of crows flying all around them. Matt and his sister run back home.
A few days later, Matt’s mom is talking about how they need a new nanny, their old nanny recently passed away. She put out an advertisement and thinks she has found the perfect person. The new nanny shows up, and she is a little weird, but she is trying to make friends. Matt doesn’t want a new nanny, and he doesn’t like this new one at all.
Eventually, the new nanny wins Matt and his sister over with songs and sugar. Just kidding! As one would expect, spooky, creepy things start to happen. I will say that the images of the witch were really cool. I thought they were scary. The witch was this half-human, half-crow monster type thing. I was impressed.
Of course, Matt and his friends have to battle the witch. You also learn a lot about where the witch came from. I liked this one. I thought it had a good storyline and fantastic images.
