Fear Street: Double Date

Fear Street: Double Date by R. L. Stine

Goosebumps books are a big hit at my school, but I feel like most of my students are able to move beyond them to some bigger scares. I remember going from Goosebumps to Fear Street and loving it! I hope the same goes for my students. I figured I should reread some of them to get ready to book talk them.

First up: Double Date. Bobby is the school player. He has dated just about every girl in the school at least once. He now has his eyes set on the new girls. Twins, Bree and Samantha. Bobby wants to date them both! They may look alike, but they don’t act alike. Bree is shy, and Samantha is outgoing and loud. One of them is murderously jealous.

Bobby is gross. Ugh. I remember boys like him in school. They were always so creepy around girls. Most of us would stay as far away from them as possible, but there were always a few who couldn’t resist. Gross. Anyway, Bobby is dating Bree but is secretly dating Samantha as well. Sam is fine with keeping this secret as long as Bree doesn’t get hurt. Eventually, Sam wants Bobby to be with her and her alone. So she tells Bobby to break up with Bree. Bobby isn’t ready to give up both of them.

Things get wild, and Bobby isn’t so sure he can really even tell the twins apart. Let me tell you, these girls, or at least one of them, are wild. Bobby may never mess with a girl’s feelings ever again. Good.

I liked the ending. I think this will be a good fit for my middle schoolers. I’m excited to tell them about these books!
