Graphic Novel
I didn’t realize this was the second book in the Button Pusher series. I don’t think you had to have read the first to understand this one, though.
The story starts right before Tyler starts 7th grade. It is a brief story about his life and the stresses he is facing that year. There are things about his weight- his dad started this health kick and is sort of forcing the rest of the family to join in. He has issues with his friends, both old and new- he is learning that sometimes you outgrow people. He is also dealing with school bullies- who hasn’t dealt with a bully?
It is always interesting to read about boys having body issues. I know boys and men have their own insecurities, but I don’t really hear about them. Being a woman, I went through (and still do) a lot of issues regarding my own body, and so did my friends. I never really heard the boys talk about this issue. I don’t think the boys at my school are going to suddenly start talking to each other about their insecurities, but they might feel less lonely at least after reading this book.
