People Like Her by Ellery Lloyd
Three out of Five Magical Coffee Cups

I love a good thriller, but there was something about this one. I didn’t care for the main character, Emmy, as much as I thought I would. She made me uncomfortable with how she ran her social media life. I already knew that most social media influencers were not 100% truthful online, but this book made them seem a lot worse than simply hiding a few ugly truths. I found it hard to root for any of the characters in this book.
I would still recommend this book to others. I have read books that made me feel nothing, like I was wasting my time reading them, but this book made me feel and it made me think. It kept me engaged all the way through. It also had me thinking about all the influencers that share so much about their lives and their family’s lives. Are there things in place for them to keep themselves and their loved ones safe? Do they even think about these types of things?
If a book makes you annoyed or uncomfortable, that means it was pretty good, right?
